Moose Mountain Hunting Trip


On October 24, 2025, the Ogichidaa Men’s Group departed on a two-day hunting trip to Moose Mountain, Saskatchewan. On this trip, the Ogichidaa Men’s Group harvested 3 moose. To date, the Ogichidaa Men’s Group has made 2 different hunts which harvested 2 elk and 4 moose. The harvested meat was shared between 19 men that participated. The men were able to provide for their families, share with elders and others in the community.


On average there has been a total of 50 men participate in the men’s group each month.


The Ogichidaa Men’s Group meets on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at the Peguis Child and Family Services Main Office located in Peguis. The men’s group does activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, golfing, Ribbon Shirt classes, support group meetings, guest speakers, and various other activities throughout the year. This year’s Christmas Hampers operation was a huge success. Peguis Child and Family Services (the “Agency”) provides a Christmas Hamper to each household where a Peguis Member resides. Each year, 3,500 hampers are delivered to Members . More than 150 Peguis Members were hired to help with the Christmas Hampers massive operation. Jobs included Christmas Elves, packers, helpers and drivers. The Christmas Hampers event each year is a huge operation. Starting in October, the Agency begins receiving large orders of items to be packed into hampers for Members. Each household received two large boxes of food, a large turkey and ham. The contents of the hampers included: Candy canes, boneless honey ham smoked, whole turkey seasoned, bag of potatoes, cake mix chocolate fudge, cake mix white, cereal oat quick packages, ground coffee, oatmeal cookies, corn cream style, creamer coffee mate original, filling pie apple, filling pie cherry, flour all purpose, frosting white, gravy base mix, apple juice, lard, margarine, mayonnaise, pancake mix, green peas, pickle cut bunslappers, microwaveable popcorn, baking powder, instant pudding chocolate, instant pudding vanilla, rice white long grain, salt, cranberry sauce, ground black pepper, chicken stuffing mix, sugar granulated, sugar icing, pancake original syrup, tea. Also included with all hampers were printed copies of the 2024/25 Annual Report, 2024/25 Financial Statements, 2024/25 Financial Summary, White Buffalo Report, Children Special Allowance Settlement notice, Member survey, newsletter poster and a Christmas greeting card. Christmas Hampers were delivered to households in Peguis First Nation, Selkirk, Winnipeg and surrounding areas including Portage La Prairie and Brandon.  The Agency staff also contributed by donating $11,000.00 to the Christmas Hampers this year.

The holiday events commenced this season beginning with Peguis Child and Family Services hosting Christmas Dinners in Peguis First Nation and in Winnipeg. The Peguis First Nation come and go dinner, hosted at the Peguis Community Hall, was held on December 6, 2025. This dinner featured two local caterers with 1,400 plates provided to Members. Pictures with Santa were available for kids and families and plenty of activities happening during the day. The Winnipeg dinner, for Members living in the Winnipeg and Selkirk areas, was held at the Victoria Inn on December 16, 2025. 1,500 plates were provided to Members. Christmas characters were on site entertaining families, Christmas photo booth and pictures with Santa were available, with a free gift for the kids. Members were provided entertainments by Mason Hoop Dancers and Peguis Square Dancers.  Thank you to all the Peguis Members who joined the dinners, Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
