LAND BLESSING IN SELKIRK, MB

A land blessing was held on National Truth and Reconciliation Day, September 30, 2025, at the Agency’s new Selkirk office location at 924 Manitoba Ave., Selkirk, MB.

In December 2024, the Agency announced the purchase of 4.29 acres in Selkirk, MB, located on Manitoba Avenue, adjacent the Manitoba Public Insurance building. As part of the Honouring our Children, Families and Nation Act, the Agency negotiated Capital Projects as part of this agreement to provide child and family services to membership to prevent children from coming into care. With a concentration of Peguis Members living in the Selkirk area, the Agency has been looking for property accessible in the community to provide child and family services.

The land blessing was held with Pegus leadership, Peguis Members, Peguis CFS Board of Directors and staff as well as Selkirk representatives present. Peguis SunLodge started the land blessing with a Pipe Ceremony, with remarks from Dwayne “Sunman” McCorrister. 

Following the land blessing, attendees made their way to Old Stone Church (0 Old Stone Church Road, St.Clements, MB)  for a Celebration. A big feast, bouncy castles, slides, games and activities were set up on site for children. As part of the celebration was the opportunity to sit and listen to Story Telling by Elders in Tipi.
